IT’S HAPPENING: Unanimous Vote 10-0 Calls for Trump to Be Impeached

The city of Los Angeles is calling on the U.S. Congress to consider the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

In a vote on May 5, the Los Angeles City Council formally requested that the U.S. House of Representatives investigate whether sufficient grounds exist to impeach Trump, reports The Inquisitr.

The resolution, which passed by a vote of 10 to 0, asks the House to authorize its Committee on the Judiciary to investigate possible violations Trump may have made in the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution.

The Clause reads as follows: “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

In a statement, council member Bob Blumenfield said that “if [Donald Trump] is not going to come clean and show the American people that his hands are clean of potentially illegal foreign money in investments, then we must demand that Congress use their power to investigate the situation.”

Blumenfield added: “This is not about his anti-choice positions, or his anti-immigrant policies, or his efforts to deny millions of Americans health care, or his misogynistic words and deeds, or any of his positions I find odious. This is about conflicts of interest.”

The Los Angeles resolution is virtually identical to those previously passed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Berkeley, California, and Charlotte, Vermont, as The Boston Globe reported.

The resolutions follow a template written by a national movement called Impeach Trump Now, an organization whose purpose is explained on its website:

The nation is now witnessing a massive corruption of the presidency, far worse than Watergate. … Given the opportunity of ten full weeks between the election and the inauguration to divest his business interests, Mr. Trump chose instead to announce, just nine days before inauguration, a wholly inadequate plan to step away from operations, but not ownership or income streams, of the Trump Organization. Instead, he has chosen to profit from the presidency at public expense, in violation of the United States Constitution. The violations, the corruption, and the threat to our republic are here now.

In January, the liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics sued President Trump, citing the Emoluments Clause, as reported by The Washington Post.

In its legal filing, the group said: “A federal officeholder who receives something of value from a foreign power can be imperceptibly induced to compromise what the Constitution insists be his or her exclusive loyalty: the best interest of the United States of America.”
