Liberals in Chicago, Illinois have worked hard to put some of the strictest gun control laws in the country in place there. However, these laws have done nothing to lower the staggering gun crime rate in the city.
The ineffectiveness of these gun control laws has been shown once again this weekend, when four people were killed and 32 were injured in shootings across Chicago. NBC Chicago reported that the first homicide of the weekend occurred when two men were shot in the city’s Near North Side neighborhood early Friday morning. One of the victims, who was 31 years-old, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds to the face. The other, a 34-year-old man, is in critical condition with multiple shots to the abdomen.
An 18 year-old male was killed just after midnight on Saturday when he was one of three people who was shot in the 2500 block of West Lithuania Plaza. The teenager was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center. A 33 year-old woman is in stable condition after suffering a graze wound to the head while a 34 year-old woman is in stable condition after being shot in the left shoulder.
A 20 year-old man was found dead at around 4:30pm Sunday afternoon in South Peoria with a gunshot wound to his back. The final fatal shooting of the weekend occurred just after midnight on Monday morning, when a 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen while walking on a sidewalk in the 7600 block of North Ashland. A gunman in a passing Dodge Charger opened fire on him, killing the young man.
This is just a small taste of the gun violence that plagues Chicago every day. Clearly, stricter gun laws are not the answer to lowering gun crime rates!
