On Sunday night, Barack Obama accepted the JFK Profile in Courage Award as his wife Michelle looked on. During his speech, the former president decided to pay a tribute to his wife that left many of us feeling nauseated.
Daily Mail reported that Obama thanked Michelle for standing by him in civilian life, joking that it “wasn’t clear” if she’d leave him after departing the White House.
“I also want to thank Michelle Obama for, after the presidency, sticking with me!” Obama said. “I think she felt an obligation to the country to stay on but once her official duties were over, it wasn’t clear.”
“I love my wife and I’m grateful for her. And I do believe it was American’s great good fortune to have her as first lady,” he continued.
There may have actually been some truth that Obama was worried that Michelle would leave him, as last week it was revealed that he cheated on her early in their relationship. Daily Mail reported that a new book has revealed that Barack proposed to another woman twice before he met Michelle, and that he continued seeing this woman during the first year he dated his future wife. In his book “Rising Star,” David J. Garrow claimed that Barack was so in love with Sheila Miyoshi Jager that he moved in with her in the mid-1980s in Chicago. Jager even described them as “an island unto ourselves.”
